The Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police have apprehended two main accused in a case involving the fraudulent siphoning of lakhs of rupees from a police officer's account under the pretext of a job at Bandhan Bank.
The incident came to light after ACP Ipsita Bhattacharya lodged a complaint with Bandhan Bank, stating that she had been searching for a job opportunity for a family member. The ACP came across a website claiming vacancies at Bandhan Bank and contacted the provided phone number.
The fraudster promised her a job but demanded a deposit of Rs 1.22 lakh. In exchange, the fraudster sent a fake job appointment letter and managed to transfer the funds. Upon verification, it was revealed that the appointment letter was counterfeit and all the email addresses associated with the website were bogus.
The cyber crime police acted swiftly, apprehending the two main culprits from the Ranaghat area. Investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the scam and bring all involved parties to justice.
